ÇANKIRI CITY CENTER
Çankırı is located in the Paphlagonia Region, which is located between the regions called Bithynia (Bithinia) in the west and Pontus in the east. The ancient name of the city of Çankırı is Gangra, and it has preserved this name to the present day. This name was first documented in the Greek and Roman periods. The oldest written source mentioning the name Gangra is Eratosthenes, a versatile scientist who lived in the 3rd century BC. In the 1st century BC, Alexander Polyhistor discussed Gangra in his book on Paphlagonia. The famous geographer Strabon, who lived during the reign of Augustus, briefly described Gangra.
ÇANKIRI SALT CAVE
This underground cave, located in the Balıbağı area, 20 km from Çankırı Center, has been meeting Anatolia's salt needs for approximately 4000 years. This salt source, which has been used as food salt since the Hittite period, is meters below the ground and consists of many large and small galleries and passages. The salt in the Balıbağı underground salt cave contains the highest quality crystal salt reserves of Anatolia in its corridors. This cave, which is good for asthma, is not recommended for thyroid patients.
